Rules

All matches will be conducted with using current International Judo Federation Contest Rules with the following modifications:

- Contest area shall be 8 x 8 meters with a 4-meter safety area and a 4 meter out of bounds area.

- CARE system may be used. If the CARE system is not in effect, one referee will be on the mat and two will be seated at the sides of the mat.

- Double drop knee WILL NOT be allowed Juniors 12 years & under.

- Any competitor who suffers a concussion (as determined by the medical staff) and/or who lose consciousness from head impact will not be allowed to continue competing in the tournament that day, in any division. If a competitor suffers such injury, they are strongly advised to obtain a medical release from their personal physician before returning to train and compete in Judo.

- No shime-waza (choking technique) or kansetsu-waza (joint lock technique) in any novice/junior division (5-12 yrs.) Novice is considered White and Yellow belt. NO MATTER THE AGE. As informed by players and coaches, referees will declare a no choking match (no shime-waza) involving white and yellow belts.

-Shime-waza (choking technique) will be allowed for 13 years and older, Orange belt +. 

- Players who are choked out are NOT allowed to continue to compete in the tournament except Senior Brown/Black.

-Kansetsu-waza (joint lock technique) will be allowed for Black belt only. 

- A double elimination scoring system will be used. 

- Golden Score time limit will be match time. First score wins match. Hantei decision will be called if tie remains after 1 Golden score match. 

- White judogi is mandatory. Blue judogi is optional. All judogi's and belts should be clean.

-Additional changes or modifications may be made to ensure the safety of participants, changes can be made at the discretion of the Tournament Committee.

Juniors (5-12yrs)  

Match Time: 2 min, NO shime-waza (chokes) or kansetsu-waza (joint locks) Pre-2003 Medical Rules.

Intermediates (13-16yrs) 

Match Time: 3 min, NO kansetsu-waza (joint locks).Shime-waza (choking technique) will be allowed for 13 years and older, Orange belt +. Pre-2003 Medical Rules

Seniors (17+ yrs) Under Brown - White

Match Time: 4 min, NO shime-waza (chokes) or NO kansetsu-waza (joint locks) Pre-2003 Medical Rules

Seniors (17+yrs) Brown

Match time: 4 min, NO kansetsu-waza (joint locks) Pre-2003 Medical Rules

Seniors(17+yrs) Black, Shodan and above, Ikkyu Brown - No White Belts 

Match Time: 4 min, IJF Rules regardless of Rank or Age

-All contestants must compete in their own age and weight division prior to competing in the next higher AGE division. Only one 2nd entry will be accepted per player into the next older AGE division. 

-Players competing in a higher division will compete at the higher division rules.

-There is no mandatory rest period for the player between matches of different divisions.

-Participants will be called to staging area before matches by age group. Roll call will be taken, participants will be responsible to answer when called.
